It will work, but I don't know if you should. There are certain parts of our vehicles that are made to be touched, hit and modestly abused and they are purposely not painted... the roof rack, side molding, lower body molding, etc. If this was a show car or you have no intention of parking in a lot, go for it. Otherwise I would not paint this part of my daily driver. I intend to go in the other direction and add the front and rear tubular grills. I have already replaced two license holders from people bumping into my X while drying to parallel park.
