Since you'll have to spend a decent amount of money either way to bring the car to stock or upgrade, I would definitely recommend that you go the upgrade route.
My suggestion:
New, aftermarket 4 channel amp
New front components (leave rears out)
Small subwoofer in trunk
The whole system, including wiring and everything, would run around $1000 depending on the specific components you choose and will sound FAR, FAR better than the original configuration. Give me a call or send me an e-mail and we can figure out exactly what the right configuration for you will be.
