How stupid. Let's sell the only line making money so that we can finance a turnaround that is not forthcoming.
There are other car makers that would purchase Jag and A-M, but Rover is the unwanted foster child. If it doesn't get packaged with Jag, it means the death for Rover. Who is going to finance yet another reengineering of the entire line to remove all of the Jag parts? Perhaps it becomes a boutique brand and goes back to fitting their SUV's with Buick aluminum V6 engines. Rover will become this century's version of the Studebaker Avant.
The first thing Ford needs to do is kill off the Mercury brand. Whatever distinction the Mercury brand once had is completely gone. IMHO, the only difference between a Merc and a Ford is the grill and tail lights.
It's almost tragic watching GM and Ford slowly crumble bit by bit. It will be a no-holds barred fight between the two for survival to make it to the year 2025. And I don't think either of them will make it or if they do, their lines will consist entirely of trucks. At least Chrysler has a benefactor, otherwise they would be a member of the dead pool as well.
