The interiour was to make it lighter. We've test drive a X3 with black exterior, black leather, black roof and tinted glass. Ouch. We felt like "man in black" or something.
What I mean was that there is no Sensatec in grey. Leather is too expensive (leather + heated seats).
I have a feeling that the grey leather on the dashboard, middle console and doors will get dirty quicker - hand sweat for example. But what the hell. We like it

Quite the contrary. I had the gray interior on my '04 and the tan on my '06 and have a friend with the black on her '05 and between the three - the gray actually looks the cleanest (hides scuffs, dirt, etc.) better than the others - to the point to where I will only get the gray on my next X3! I agree that the black is too dark and the tan looks sharp but shows every scuff of dirt/shoe mark, etc. but the gray is a good balance between being bright enough to not be "too dark" and not so light as to show every scrap of dust/dirt. Great choice!
