In a rare departure from civility, I would answer this diatribe in the following manner:
...Are you fu*king kidding me? Who gives a sh*t about your purported popularity contest? Your mere suggestion that we should adapt our policies concerning the war on terror so as to be viewed favorably in world opinion polls is devoid of logic and absolutely lacking in any cerebral function.
We may have imprisoned Japanese & Germans & others, but we did not start WWII anymore than did we attack ourselves on 9/11. Someone earlier in this post stated that our enemies have changed and so to should our tactics....Here, here. And torturing someone with 'water' and 'chili peppers', while unusual, is hardly cruel in the scope of what could be employed (ie tearing someones finger nails off of them, tearing their ears off and feeding it to them as their only source of food, driving ice-picks through body parts). You, who quote the Geneva Convention, as if it were holier than the bible, have never picked up a weapon or raised your hand to defend the constitution of these United States. You have no idea what the fog of war is like nor what the consequences of our inactions would be. I need only point out how many occassions (Kobar Tower, U.S.S. Cole, World Trade Center x2, Embassies abroad, et al) we were attacked during the democratic administration prior to George Bush. A lot of good pacifism and 'turning the other cheek' did for us in the years before 9/11 during Clinton's stay in office.
That's the problem with you left-wing fringe types, you have no handle on rationalism. You resort to rhetoric and public opinion polls to see the direction in which you should govern.
If you feel so, for those who would harm us, then take up arms with them.
Unbelievable.
