Thanks for trying this one out. But the thing is, its not gear shifting because on a kick down the gear doesn't shift until the end of the round.

In my case, with continuous acceleration, the needle pauses at 4 then jumps to five (i.e. it continues to rise which means car is still in engaged in the SAME gear) before reaching to 6 when the up-shift takes place.
