Our daily Yard Rat is our '03 CR-V, with the 2.4 L 4IL and
VTech valve stuff...

I have no real beef with the motor, though in the heavier
CR-V, it takes some serious "toe" to get it up our mtn roads.
When the rpms get into the VTech range, it does really "breathe".

Our CR-V has never seemed "well built" or "Honda-like", but
motor-wise, it runs well, albeit with punkyazz mpg: the best
we've ever seen is 24ish...around town and up and down our
Mtns., it averages 17-18. The Civic should do much better by
comparo.

If the engine is mounted similarly, vis a vis the suspension,
it provides for a near impossible oil filter change, but I'd bet
the Civic does not have that design flaw.

For a daily driver, I would think the Civic, while small,
would do very well.
