It is on the news all over the world. But American media rarely reports stuff like that.
If you get cable, you probably get the BBC World News channel. Try watching that sometimes. In fact, watch that right after you have watched Fox News or CNN. You will think they are reporting the events from a different planet.
The American media is very bias and very selective in what they report. You really need to watch international news if you want an accurate picture of what is going on in the world.
