I don't know (yet) about high quality but I can share two experiences I had:
I've burned a Memorex DVD-R at 1x speed. It seemed to work in my X3' 2006, but I haven't drive with it. I've given it to a friend of mine, with a 3-series E46 touring, and it worked for some days, but he complained that the navi is almost everytime at the "please wait" dialogue. His firmware is still v24, so it might also have some relation.
In the X3 I'm now using a TDK DVD-RW and it has been working for some weeks. I've got the please wait some times, but only for max 5 secs, and always only at boot. Only once had I to stop the car, go to the trunk, eject andreinsert the dvd.
The RW's are years old already, so I don't know if the current ones are that good.
