I have dug myself a hole already as I have spent hundreds buying the V710 for my wife, bought the v710 snap-in adapter. Too late to try to return and swap my wife's phone service from Verizon to other GSM based providers.

If I can swap out the 552 and replace with the 993 ULF for BT/Assist, that will be my best option if it is available. If not, I will resort to swaping the 552 for 522 and at least I can get her V710 working but no phone book transfer.

Any advise here???

Another question regarding whether the X5 should be recoded when the ULF is installed?

Thanks a million
At this time my answer would have to be no, it won't work to install the Motorola combo Assist/BT module into a vehicle produced prior to 3/04. I've been communicating with Parag (AdvancedAutovations) and Kewl X5 (who wants to do this for the same reason you described) and it doesn't appear that the -993 module can be made to function properly in older BMW's. Parag has used his own X5 as a test vehicle and gone through virtually every recoding scenario conceivable without success.

Regarding recoding the vehicle for the -552 module, I personally don't think this will buy you anything. Since you have the 552 module, see if you can load your phone on the 1.3 version of the V710 software. In that setup it should pair and work with the vehicle. Alternately, see if you can get your hands on a -522 module, which works with the 1.4 version of the V710 software. Either way, though, you won't get phone book transfer.

Good luck!

Jeff
