Because there is actually no evidence they are building a nuclear arsenal.
My understanding is that their nuclear facilities are entirely open to UN inspections, and even the Iranian public can tour them. If that is the case, then they are not violating any international laws or treaties. The NPT gives them the right to develop nuclear energy.
Of course, I'm sure there are allegations of "hidden" facilities where the nuclear arsenals are being created. Maybe they can bring him back to show us some maps of Iran and where these secret facilities are. I'm sure most Americans would believe him...
