Wow....everything has come full circle. Apple announced that they are going to abandon IBM power pc chips in favor for Intel chips.
Apparently, Steve Jobs designed OS X to also run Intel chips and have been planning this for the past 5 years.
Unfortunatley, the IBM/Motorola can't keep up with Intel in terms of power and speed and price especially CPUs for laptops.
Also, now that laptop sales are starting to surpass desktop, having a CPU that doesn't generate as much heat and uses less battery power, etc. is very important. Intel has IBM/Motorola beat in that department.
So this sounds like a "win-win" situation for Mac users. Now, their future Macs (as early as 2006) will have Intel chips that will run OS X and most likely have much better Windows emulator (heck they could make a dual-boot OS X/Windows system).
Apple ditching PowerPC chips for Intel!!
