Can anyone tell me where the fuel economy gauge on a 4.4ltr gets it's signal from? Along with my hard starting the gauge is doing some funny things. When I let off the gas the needs swings back towards the 40 but then stops and changes direction.

A vacum leak could cause both symptoms (if the gauge is vacum fed). If it gets it's signal from the computer, it's going to get expensive.
