I would say, 40mm is the smallest watches still being purchased with the average tettering somewhere around 43. Both Panerai and AP are still making special addition watches that no one can keep in stock like the Polaris, Barichello, Panerai Subzilla's and even the new Ferrari theme'd watches (not my taste.)
And even the Jaeger, Bell and Ross, etc. are all still doing very well with big watches.
Rolex seems to be the only watch manufacturer that is not putting out big watches.
I don't think big"er" watches is a fad. You will not see the average going back to the 36mm and 38mm our parents and grandparents wore.

that might be true in LA, but here in the fashion center of the universe (NYC) the big watches ain't so big anymore
I work with some big money people (consequences of working at a broker/dealer) and there are very few "big watches anymore, very few. Besides, LA is always 6 months to a year behind NYC anyway
(i'm joking btw)
Also, maybe we should make sure we're talking about the same thing, by "big" i mean diameter and height like a breitling chronomat evolution chrono, not just diameter.
