regarding damage to your X: You say that you were parked right? you absolutely need to get the transmission checked, specifically the "park pin" or whatever BMW calls the lock mechanism that engages when the car is put in Park. The rear end might have absorbed the shock, but so did the transmission and the drive train.

Thats good advice I'll get the panel shop to check it. I've been driving it every day and have not noticed any probs with the drive train. Looking back at the impact scene, the other driver lifted my back corner like a wedge more that a direct shunt.
