Sorry for the multiple posts but this was a task I refused to give up on. Ok I got the second half and let me tell you BMW is slick with their stuff. Remember I said I couldn't get the cable out of the connector? Heres what had to be done.

If you have the square part off (that being the square cover) then you'll find two tabs on the round/tubular connector inside. Use a small screw driver or dental pick to lift up on the tab while you gently pull out the cable from both ends. See the two circles in the photo. Now we are ready to insert the 2 ends into the connector that holds the fibre optic cable and that connector slides into the connector that contains the power and ground wire. I'm guessing now because I have not really done this part but when I saw the end of the fibreoptic cable i noticed that they may be capped off on the end by a crey cap. It's reasonable at this point to draw the conclusion that the fibreoptic cable will be held in place with the blue retainer clip on the connector.Looking forward to the next step. Hope the interface is recognized by the 530. My appreciation is extended to ImolaRedM on the E60 forum.
The internet is a beautiful place.
