I concur with cmartin. It is indeed the latch assembly. The fix is very simple. Just spray a teflon based lubricant up into the latch assembly. Open and close the hatch a few times, then repeat the application of teflon. I did this about a year ago and have had no rattles since. I used RemOil. Which is a teflon firearms lubricant made for Remington. You can find it anywhere where guns and ammo are sold.Mark
