Yes, definitely do a test fit before wiring. Also, I'm not sure why they supplied so much wire, especially the additional ones that aren't connected to anything. I also wish they used the same connector so that it would truly be a plug & play instead of using those crimp-ons. If I ever get the fitting issue resolved, I think I'm going to see if I can find the right connector, add that, and get rid of all that extra wiring.
