It is all relative. It is cheaper than 8 litres of quality synthetic oil. It is a lot cheaper than an engine repair due to a poor quality filter.
Take a look on some of the oil sites (Bob the Oil Guy, etc) at the filter durability tests. If that doesn't sway you, there is always the old standby of the toilet paper roll, it is the cheapest filter going (considering only the up-front cost). Just kidding. No-one would actually do that, would they?
