The cracked boot intake problem as described by member "The Cleaner" involves a 3.0 6-cylinder engine which has a very different intake than an '04 4.4i engine. There does not appear to be an analogous part for your engine.

I looked around to see if there are any other similar complaints from owners with the newer Valvetronic V8 engines - I could find nothing here or in Bimmerfest E60 and E53 forums.

Can you isolate the noise to a particular part of your engine? You'll have to pop the hood open and rev the engine. Or have the dealer take a look.
