First of all, no one voted yesterday for a national office- only state or district or city offices were on the ballot. Whatever each individual voted for relates to their own backyard or city or state, anyone who voted for the "party" is a fool and I hope that didn't happen too often. There'll be 230+ "plans" coming from the Democrats, they'll need to work fast to whittle it down to a single vision.
Exit polls seem to reflect that many people are just bitter with Bush, bitter with the Republican majority in Congress, and seek a more moderate representation. Conservatives will no doubt predict that Nancy Pelosi will wave her rainbow wand and turn straight people gay and take guns away from the military and make them hug the enemy but the liberals made similar far-fetched predictions about the Republican-controlled Congress. That's politics.
Just simmer down now and see what transpires. If you don't like it, you get to go to the polls all over again in two years
As to the original topic- it has been related over and over again by former Generals and civilian DOD workers that Rumsfeld was a guy who didn't like having people around whose views differed from his own, and wanted to be surrounded by "yes" men. I'm glad he's gone, it should have happened years ago.
