ljnlaw is on a distinguished road
I have an '02 4.6 and just removed the resonator and replaced with straight pipes. The sound of my exhaust is almost exactly similar to the post by J.Seven. The reason why I decided to go with the straight pipes and not the x-pipe is that the straight pipes are clamped in (not welded) and can be easily removed and replaced with an x-pipe if I ever decide to go that route (which I am not)...I did not want a new pipe welded in incase I wanted to change. I think the straight pipes alone sound fine on my X. Some guys claim rattle and chatter without the x-pipe but I have no complaints.
