I'm aware of the overheating processors too, as this happened at one of the main trade shows. however, i seriously sony would put out a defective product.
as far as backwards compatibility, i don't even see why this is an issue. all games are made with a newer, better version in mind the next time around. i've never gone back to play an older game. this could be an issue with someone who has kids so young that it doesn't really matter, but as the kids get older, it will matter. plus, i don't even think the 360 is 100% backwards compatible and the PS2 when initially launched wasn't either (although it was supposed to be).
