I have a quick question about starting 3.0 on cool mornings...

The other morning it was rather cool and I cranked my 3.0 right as I was leaving and it rattled for about 2-3 seconds and then it ran smooth as always. However, this morning it was cooler and I turned it ON without cranking and I let it do its thing for a few seconds, and then I cranked it and it cranked just as smooth without any noises, rattles or anything. So could letting it "boot up" before cranking reduce any odd noises, or rattles? I'm not very mechanical inclined, so does letting it "boot up" allow proper oil pressue to build before cranking and could that have been my problem before, when it rattled for 2-3 after cranking? Thanks for the help and sorry for the elementary questions.
