What gauge wire is your power and ground? 12? higher?

As Alpac said I would recheck your ground. That is critical. Have you measured the voltage at your speaker-level inputs at full volume (as X5GuyinLA mentions)? If it is not a current problem, you would next want to check to be sure you are not clipping the input on the Basslink.

You might also want to check with Wagner to see if he dealt with any of these problems. I really doubt this has anything to do with the electrical system in your X5 unless your battery and alternator are both bad, and you would know if they were.

Hooked up properly, I would be amazed if a Basslink drew enough power to require a stiffening cap.
