unfortunately, that's not going to work. the p990 is set to work with 3G on a completely different frequency than is available in the US (2100 in Europe, vs. 1900 in the US). believe me, i wish i could somehow "tune" my p990 to work in the 3G frequency here in the states, but i lack an electrical engineering degree, the know-how to re-configure the circuitry in the phone, and the coding skills to adjust the software to use the 3G signal on a different frequency... so, to avoid the need to go back to school, i just ordered a treo 680 and i'll just take EDGE for the moment.
actually, it's not even the data speeds that are bothering me the most with my p990 - it won't hold a connection to my X3's bluetooth (though my X3's bluetooth works with other phones i have). from a few other forums, i've gathered that it's not compatible with all bmw bluetooth modules - consider yourself lucky that it works with yours! i have to use a bluetooth headset in my X3. i didn't think that would bother me at first, but i really miss the handsfree calling in my X3 without messing with a headset. i've got my fingers crossed that the treo will work! and then my p990 will most likely take a trip courtesy of ebay.
