Alex, I can give you a quick answer to that one, No, the mk3 does not support modified dvd map discs (written back as a cd), I know, I've tried...

The navteq 2007 CD map disc is almost identical to the 2007-1 dvd in file structure, I tried to modify the (2007-cd and the 2007-1 dvd) disc to accept the speed camera database, and both the CD and DVD discs would work on a dvd nav computer (mk4) including the speed cameras.

The CD would also work in the mk3 but with no speed camera POI's, (they were just not selectable, they were not in the menu, even though they had been added and were availabe on the mk4) the modded DVD would just barf, and eject.

I think that it is a hardware issue rather than a software issue, the mk4 must have more memory to load the added POI's.

There is something in the way the mk4 lets it read the POI's as well as the inbuilt map POI database, that the mk3 cannot.

I think the mk3 uses the map database's built in POI's and not the directoried POi's, Ive deleted all the POI stuff off the 2007 CD and the disc still worked in the mk3, and all the menu functions were still there, so they must form part of the mk3's map "image" (carindb).

Maybe the modded CD might work in a nav system that uses the directory POI's, the Rover system is the same as the bmw system so it wont work in that one either, but it might work in another manufactures that can use the navteq discs...

Don't waste your time on it mate, I spent two week on it every night and hundreds of cd burns (cd-rw, thankfully) and nothing, it just will not work.

3D perspective mode is only a function of the mk4 from v26 onwards, and not available for the mk3 (v23), be nice if it was though...
