J: It started out as a great idea, but you had asked us to stop discussing a Florida meet so as not to preempt any plans Dreex might have had...you were implict in your request that we not discuss anything that would put pressure on Drex, thus we backed away. This is the reason there is no host. We now are in a chicken and egg situation; a Florida meet cannot evolve because those of us who were thinking of organizing one were asked to cease....having never organized one, I am more than happy to narrow down some venues and hotel options in Tampa, secure some catering and query the four potential dealers in the area to see if one of them could participate, but I think that due to the fact that the apparent venue would be in Tampa, not Orlando, a co-host scenario makes sense. I suppose Michelle could come down and help...we could map out strategy at the Hooters in Clearwater Beach.
One thing to consider is that Tampa and Orlando are major gateway airports with tons of hotel rooms and some folks with kids may want to include a theme park in the visit. Last time I checked, the direct Delta flight to Asheville was about $600 r/t from Orlando. San Diego to Tampa can be done for $200 r/t. As we all know, air, room, car, and bevvies add up.
This being said, if the general consensus is to do a tie-in with Spartanburg and you want to (and know how to) host, I would certainly be happy to attend and then hit the Outer Banks for some watersports. I suppose those of us who want to can simply do a mini meet at the Don Cesar in St. Pete Beach sometime in March, then we'll come see you in May. There may be some overlap, but no date is going to be perfect for everybody. What is the nearest major airport folks would fly into for a meet at your place?
