so, my treo cradle showed up earlier than expected and i installed everything last night. it took literally 2 minutes to pop the base mount in and then screw the phone-specific holder on to that. no tools required (except for a plastic gap opener included with the mount), no scratches on my dash, and i didn't need to use the included adhesive strips. the mount itself doesn't move around at all and is very firmly in place. the phone holder screws securely into the mount and doesn't come into contact with anything else.

oh, and the flash emphasizes the dust on my dash. i swear it's not that bad in person.
my x is due for a cleaning after this bout of rain passes...
