I mean did it really destroy this guys day to see a Christmas tree? Sort of similar to when we all shifted from "Merry Christmas" as a greeting of the season to "Happy Holidays". The intention is the same, isn't it?

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see where the Rabbi said it was offensive. I actually read it as taking the trees down was offensive instead of just adding the menorah. Total ass though threatening to sue etc... can't just talk it through and come to some sort of compromise.

While in Syracuse, I never had any issues seeing a huge lit tree on one side of the quad and a large menorah on the opposite side with 1 light being lit every day.

It's sad and pitiful... just like the HOA a-hole telling the woman to take down the peace sign, and just like the a-holes that complain a light display is too bright or too distracting, or the pricks that complain about the old couple playing Christmas songs outside their hourse only between 3pm - 5pm for the children walking home from school, people getting off of work, or simply to help someone feel more in the holiday spirit (yes, that last one actually happened in south philly... 1 person complained and the cops put an end to it. even the cops called the person who complained a scrooge. the neighborhood was sad when it came to an end).
