Terry is correct. The MkIV will expect to send/receive signals from the vehicle via the i-Bus. A 1983 vehicle certainly won't have this, so the odds of your being able to get this to work properly are not good. In my opinion I think you'd be much better off getting some form of aftermarker Nav system.
