My MKIV will not work well at all with a counterfeit disk. I own a 2006-1 disk, but I prefer to use a backup copy in my car. I have made multiple copy attempts with very high quality media on two different Sony DVD burners at 1x speeds. I have tried all of the techniques on the forums, but my MKIV still crashes somewhat frequently (once every couple of weeks, or so), with a copy in the drive. It almost never crashes with an authentic map DVD in the drive.

Before you worry too much, try buying the latest authentic disk and try that.
