I'm sure the North Vietnamese soldiers who fought in the Vietnam war against the United States would agree with you.
Perhaps them more than anyone. Vietnam fought for almost 50 years for their independence. First against the Japanese, then against the French, and then against the United States. The first occupation of the Japanese occured during the early 1930s and they did not have full independence until the mid-1970s.
I'm glad to see in recent years that our leaders (even President Bush) are trying to normalize relations with them. While many communist countries over the years have shown to have totalitarian and repressive regimes running them, Vietnam has always been a democracy since their first free elections in 1956.
