Phils,
I'm a little confused here, as to your current situ, but...
Assuming
Your orig BMW warr. is near expiration, then:
-You have 2 choices, Warranty-wise: the
1st Choice: a 2 year Dlr offering called Original Owner Protection Program/2OP
That deal runs for 24 months or, 50K miles, whichever comes first.
MSRP, as listed when it came out: $3250, as pub'd back in 2004.
Stlr cost at that time was ~$2500. Negotiation is possible. Must be
initiated before your current oem warr. expires, based on the deal's
language.
Coverage is identical to "CPO" coverage in terms of what is covered...
it is not as inclusive, coverage-wise, as your original factory warranty.
-2nd Choice, which does not sound of interest to you:
an aftermarket/third party warr., sometimes sold by some Stlrs
or, an offering by a company like Warranty Direct. See their web
site for details.
A Sltr cannot "CPO" your car; you still own it. The CPO is the prog.
done by a dlr after he takes your car in, "cert's" it and offers it for
sale to the next buyer.
Ext Maintenance: I think you understand that...it's a program to
cover wear/maintenance items eg brakes, et al. It is not a warranty
for any non-maint. items. Probably worth it, if you are keeping the car,
for a brake job and few other items, done by stlr, vs. DIY.
I assume, as in my first line of post, that you have orig. new car delivered,
BMW first owner warr. If so, all of the above is accurate...
if you currently have CPO, then my post info on Warr. is moot.
Hope this helps...
