Oil changes/service are to be done at 1 year OR when the maintenace minder says <500 miles. Now that you have passed one year, get the oil change done. Our first dealer oil change on the X3 was done at 1 year with only 13k miles on the odo. And for you X5 people talkin about green bars.......there are none on the 3-series and the X3 for that matter. It's just a simple "xxxxx miles till Oil Service/Inspection".
I got the oil changed free at 1 year with only around 10K miles. No problem. BMW recommends this annual oil change if you don't drive 15K in a year. I made sure they didn't reset the service indicator and I'll be taking my X3 back in for the 15K service in about a month. That will just be the microfilter filter and I'll prpbably ask for some new wiper blades.

It's taken me approx. 1 yr 7 months to get to 15K.
