And you want to know why GM brought it back? It's simple, Ford brought back the Mustang, DC brought the Charger back and probably will bring the Challenger back. There is a market for these types of cars and GM would be idiots to not get back in the game. In fact, if they sat this out, they would villified for not, much as you're villifying them for getting back in. Damned if you do.... (there are other reasons, but you can google them).

To address your comment about building a lower end Vette, in principle, the Camaro IS the lower end Corvette. GM will NEVER EVER damage the heritage of what is a Corvette by dumbing it down with a sub par engine package and slapping the name Corvette on it. Corvette is what gets some people into the dealeships, the technology that is built for the Vette is what winds up in the other Chevy models a few years later, and if they EVER damaged the heritage that is one of the most loved American automotive icons by dumbing it down, it would be their last desperate act before selling Saturn to Toyota and shutting the doors of every GM manufacturing plant.

And THAT Mr. Blue is why.
I think you should consider this:

1)Ford never stopped building the Mustang and they don't have a close model like GM with the Vete.
2) The Charger is an four door that applies to a different buyer than the Chrysler
3) Both Ford and Chrysler are also trouble so doing what they do is questionable at best.
