3) Both Ford and Chrysler are also trouble so doing what they do is questionable at best.

1) Ford never built a direct rival for the Corvette. Ford had the Mustang initially to rival the GTO from Pontiac (GM). Then Camaro entered from Chevrolet. Mustangs were never built to "fight" a Vette. That was the GT-40's role at $150k.

2) The Charger holds its roots in the 2 door coupe, it morphed to a 4 door because Dodge wasn't sure how to handle an unknown market and was ramping up to go against the 'new' GTO, which was a modified Grand Am/Prix. The Challenger will be a 2dr 'Muscle' car to go against the Mustang/Camaro.

3) Ford owns many different car manufacturers (Ford|Lincoln|Mercury|Mazda|Aston Martin|Jaguar|Volvo|Land Rover)....Ford as a company is not in trouble. Chrysler is now in the bank book of MB, therefore...no trouble there. It is called broadening market share by purchasing the competition.
