May be copy protected. http://www.directionsmag.com/article...e_id=433&trv=1 On this site this was a post that talked about this issue. Don't know if it applies though.
We purchased a 2003 Land Rover Discovery for use as a production vehicle (we're a TV production company). When I discovered that the CD is used "live" and not downloaded to a hard drive, I tried to make a backup - but the CD is copy protected. We called NavTech and they said they copy protect the discs so we can't buy one and install it in a fleet of vehicles (our "fleet" is the one Discovery).
Recently the CD became physically damaged, as I'd feared. There have been NO DATA UPDATES SINCE 2003 (it's July of 2006!), and NavTech wants $199 to replace the disc with the same data we already have, even if we return the damaged one for exchange!
This site is full of people attempting to make copies. Some have said they were successful but no mention of success with BMW.
