There's another alternative. Stoptech makes some outstanding street and track brakes.
Stoptech sells what is called a Stage 2 brake kit which gets you everything you need for a brake overhaul. It is described as follows on the
Stoptech website:
Stage 2 drilled brake upgrade kit for 2000-2004 BMW X5 with solid rear rotors. Includes front and rear Axxis Ultimate brake pads, front and rear StopTech stainless steel brake lines, three 500mL bottles of Motul RBF600 DOT 4 synthetic brake fluid, and pair of front and rear stock sized StopTech cross-drilled or slotted brake rotors. FITS STOCK CALIPERS.
$719 for the entire kit, MSRP. You might find it cheaper if you shop around. It's a minor upgrade as the rotor sizes are the same as stock, but you do end up with drilled or slotted rotors, Axxis Ultimate pads which are a favorite on this board, S.S. brake lines (big time improvement in brake pressure feel), and hipo brake fluid.
If you paint your rotors at the same time, you'll have an upgrade both in performance and appearance at a relatively inexpensive cost as compared to the next step up, which would be a big brake kit from one of the major aftermarket companies (Brembo, Stoptech, Rotora, etc.).
If you can do the job yourself, it's money in the bank.
