Is it possible to re-code or flash new firmware into a analogue TV tuner to change from a 4x3 to a 16x9 version?

I have read about this on a german internet site (which I can not find anymore) but that means sending out the unit to germany and spending mega-euro's on it.
And in the end I don't even need this unit for its analogue TV reception because everything is DVB-t over here so just for a AV input to feed a 16x9 bordmonitor.
