I'm having a problem building an almanac and getting a GPS signal after upgrading to an MKIV from my old MKII. I've let the var sit out in the open, and i can see 8 satellites, but the GPS will not build the almanac.
Where did you hook up the antenna cable? The MK II has a separate GPS receiver module, while the MK IV has it built into the NAV computer.

If you mean the "Visible satellites: 8" message, you'll always get that. It doesn't actually mean you can see 8 satellites. If you have acquired the almanac, it means the number of satellites above the horizon (limited to 8 as this is an 8-channel GPS).
