Correct. Chris, what was probably happening to you before is the iPod would play the "OBD display" track and then go to the next track, which is "no tag display". Hence, you weren't getting the display to show song tags. It only takes a few seconds of playing the "song" for the mode you want for it to be enabled.

Now if you are doing a complete firmware update then it takes much longer and you shouldn't interrupt the process until it is complete. Review the instructions very carefully.
