You don't need to do it monthly, unless you are in one VERY harsh environment. Usually every 3 or 6 months is fine and will keep a good level of wax on the vehicle, provided that you don't use cleaners that pull the wax off.

Start using some good polish sprays and you will not feel the need to wax as often
