This is a very sad thing then: to be so large that we cannot even concern ourselves with the happenings in other countries, I think, is just the first step towards our own demise. It seems intuitive, to me, that a (relatively) advanced society like our human race of 6 BILLION+ people cannot coexist on this small blue world and hope to survive if we can so easily "not care" about the international community in which we now live.

Many astronauts, when first seeing Earth from space for the first time -- and successive times -- say that the most beautiful thing is not the Moon rising from behind the Earth; not the delicate blue atmosphere hovering gently over our planet; nor even the beautiful globe passing by underneath once every 90 minutes.

They say the most beautiful sight to behold is seeing the lands about 150 miles beneath them drawn without any of those arbitrary things called "borders."

If we cannot even concern ourselves with each others' NEWS, how can we even PRETEND to support an international community? And absent true international cooperation, how can we really hope to stay afloat?
