I agree that athletes bring in big time money for schools, and I believe that they should be paid/compensated for it. But, you need to realize that only a FEW sports bring in the money (football/basketball). Do you just give money for football/basketball players? I've yet to see a D1 women's football game, so I'm sure they'll be Title 9 issues there. What about swimmers, track athletes, etc? Their sports bring in no revenue, but have plenty of expenses associated with it. Can you pay a 2.0 GPA offensive lineman while leaving a 4.0 GPA tennis player in the dark?

Personally, the NCAA is too stupid to tackle any of these issues, and even if they did, it wouldn't be fair to many.

I don't see anything wrong with someone who wants to help their alma mater by giving them a car or money. However, I think they should give it to the athletic departments and have them split it equitably somehow (after all the bills are paid, of course).
