I remember an incident from the gulf war where an Apache pilot blew up a friendly APC, he kept questioning whether it was friendly, but the ground commander kept telling him to shoot. Even though the pilot is ultimately responsible for firing his weapons, I think they feel a lot of pressure from the people on the ground. Of course, ocasionally pilots get trigger happy like the Canadian incident in Afghanistan.
