4th do you think that going low is better ? as a mechanical engineer I realy think that there is no prob at all. from one side the perfect machining of these engines, the quality of metals and the progress in lube oils will not do any harm at all.

Sounds like this guy is determined to drive in lower gears and higher RPM --3500 to 3900 RPM is way to high for normal driving--Just because the manual limits to 4000 RPM does not mean to cruise at 3900 RPM---put the car in "D" and drive (or 6th gear if manual)--Or just drive as you are and quit complaining about gas mileage.
