What am I doing wrong???????

Can I set the search / scan setting on my radio 04 X5 with NAV to stay in either the search sensitive or scan modes??? If I select search sensitive, scan, etc, I can search / scan once and then the cursor box reverts to the manual location and the unit searchs non-sensitive, via the < > on the radio or the wheel buttons when held down to bypass the "next" station sequence .

I've read the manual and don't know if this is normal procedure for the radio or not.

Logic would dictate that I should be able to lock the setting of choice.
