Brake hard (hot rotors) and stop the car. That could warp the rotors. Hot rotors get wet= warped rotors. There's many ways it could've happend. Them jumping the gun to tell you it was your fault is unprofessional considering they have no idea under what circumstances this happend.

In city traffic, brake early and gradually. Saves rotors and gas.
