There is a breaker built into the mirrors to prevent them from being overworked. The circuit usually resets after 10 mins or so. Find out which side causes the noises and have it replaced because the motor is bad. If you're still under warranty, dealer will replace at no cost. They will have to remove the door panel to replace the mirror. And yes, the whole mirror housing has to be replaced, not just the motor.
